In Memory of
Donald J. Marnon
Donald James Marnon, a member of Chapter 54, passed away on
December 27, 2022. He served in the U.S. Army for many years;
including service with U.S. Army Special Forces. He retired in
the rank of Colonel. At the time of his death, at age 85, he
was a resident of Dothan, Alabama.

Donald was born in Buffalo, New York on January 5, 1937. He
raised in Melrose, Massachusetts. He was a 1955 graduate of
Melrose High School In 1958 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where
he attended Officer Candidate School (OCS). Upon retirement
from the Army in 1987, he accepted a position with the City of
Dothan, Alabama as the City Manager.
He was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from
OCS in June 1958. His first assignment was as a Rifle Platoon
Leader with the 29th Infantry. Subsequent assignments included:

- 7th Special Forces Group, Fort
Bragg
- 8th Special Forces Group, Panama
- District Senior Advisor, South
Vietnam
- U.S. Army Infantry Test Board,
Fort Benning

- Office of the Inspector General,

- Exchange Instructor, Canadian
Forces Command and Staff College

- Director of Industrial Operations,
USAIC, Fort Benning
- Garrison Commander, Fort Rucker
Colonel Marnon was a graduate of numerous military schools
to include Airborne, Ranger, Pathfinder, Jungle Warfare,
Special Forces Officer Course, Defense Language Institute
(Spanish) Defense Language Institute (Vietnamese), and Command
and General Staff College. His awards and decorations include
the Silver Star, Bronze Star with V with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters,
Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, and
numerous other awards.
