George Cecil Ackley, Jr.
George Ackley, a member of Chapter 54, passed away on August 13, 2021 at the age of 91. He was a member of Company A, 11th Special Forces Group from 1965 to 1969 as well as a member of Chapter 54 of the Special Forces Association.
He was born on June 5, 1930 in Rutland, Vermont. He attended Rutland High School where he excelled in schools sports. In 1954 George graduated from Norwich as a Distiguished Military Gradute. He would live most of his life in Scituate, Massachusetts.
George served in the Vermont National Guard from 1948 to 1952. From 1950 to 1951 he was on active duty during the time of the Korean War. George retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1976. During and after his military service he had a long career with the New England Telephone Company from 1954 to 1984; and later with NYNEX from 1984 to 1991.
Services
George was buried with military honors during a private ceremony.
