In Memory of
Richard T. Kelley

Major (Ret) Richard Taffe Kelley passed away at age 77 on October
15, 2018. He
was a member of Chapter 54.
Kelley was a native of South Lawrence, Massachusetts. At the
time of his death he was a resident of Andover,
Massachusetts.
He enlisted in the Army in 1959 at the age of eighteen. His
first assignment was in Signal Intelligence. He then served in
the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. While
stationed at Fort Bragg he attended Ranger School, HALO School,
and Special Forces training.
He was commissioned in the infantry in 1966 through
Officer Candidate School (OCS) and was assigned to Special
Forces. Rick served in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th Special
Forces Group during his career. He also served two tours in Vietnam in
1966 and 1968-1970. He retired from the service in 1980.
He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Tampa in
1973. While stationed at Fort Devens in 1976 he earned his law
degree from Suffolk University.
Following his Army service he practiced general law in
Massachusetts for over 35 years. He is a past president of the
Lawrence Bar Association and past president of the Bon Secours
Men's Guild.
Rick served on the Board of Directors of the Veterans Northeast
Outreach Center and was a counseler for and advocate for
veterans.
