In Memory of
William O. Brown
Master Sergeant (Ret.) William Owen Brown passed away on
June 11, 2021. He was a life member of the
Special Forces Association and a member of Chapter 54 (SFA
- Boston). He was also a member of the
Special Operations Association.
William served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He served in
Southeast Asia from 1968 to 1969 with
Military
Assistance Command Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group
(MACV-SOG) on
Recon Team Awl, Command and Control South 1st Exploitation
Company. He was wounded during his tour; despite his wounds he
continued to serve in the Army for seven more years retiring in
1976.
Bill was born on March 30, 1938. He graduated from Greely
Institute in 1956 and then volunteered for service in the U.S.
Army. After his Army service Bill and his family returned to
Cumberland, Maine. He was active in the Catholic Church in
Yarmouth and served as an Eucharistic minister.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Joan Dorr Brown, a
son and three daughters, 12 grandchildren, 12 great
grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, and a sister.
There was a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Sacred
Heart Church, 326 Main Street, Yarmouth, Maine on June 22, 2021
followed by a committal service and military honors at Holy
Cross Cemetary in Yarmouth, Maine.
