In Memory of
Richard Duteau
SFC (Ret.) Richard "Dick" Arlen Duteau passed away on February 16, 2024
at his home in Florida at age 75. He was
a member of Chapter 54 of the Special Forces Association.
"Dick" was a former member of A Company, 1st Battalion, 11th
Special Forces Group (Airborne) and C Company, 1st Battalion,
20th Special Forces Group (Airborne). He passed away at his
home in Palm Coast, Florida.
Dick enlisted in the Army after High School in 1968. He served
with the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 11th, and 20th Special Forces Groups.
He was a Senior Medical Specialist as well as an Operations and
Intelligence Sergeant. He spoke Russian, Ukrainian, and Spanish
and deployed to many foreign nations during his long career in
Special Forces. He was an avid reader and scuba diver with a
great sense of humor.
Dick was a Massachusetts native and a graduate of Gardner High
School, Massachusetts, class of 1967. In 1968 he graduated from
Leominster Trade School with a certificate in Mechanical
Engineering. He graduated Quinsigamond Community College in
1973 with an Associate's Degree in Medical Science and
Respiratory Therapy. He also did post graduate studies at
Wachusett Community College and Fitchburg State College. He
worked for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections from
1981 to 2005 when he retired as a Lieutenant. He moved to Palm
Coast, Florida in 2013.
