In Memory of
Roudolphe P. "Rudy" Szegda
SGM (Ret.) Rudy Szegda passed away on January 22, 2024. He was
a member of Chapter 54 of the Special Forces Association.
Prior to his Special Forces career, Rudy had enlisted in the
Marine Corps. He served one tour in Vietnam. After completing
his active duty time in the Marines, he joined the 25th Marine
Regiment, Marine Corps Forces Reserve. He then joined the U.S. Army Special Forces,
serving in the 11th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort
Devens, Massachusetts.
Much of his
time in Special Forces was on a Combat Dive team. Among the
Army schools that he attended were the Combat Diver
Qualification Course (CDQC) conducted at Key West, Florida. He later was an instructor
for many years at the U.S. Army
Special Forces Combat Dive School at Key West, Florida. In
addition, he completed an
overseas tour in Afghanistan.
Rudy spent a career with the Boston Police Department retiring
as a Sergeant. During his time with the BPD he served with the
motorcycle unit and the police dive team.
Obituary
Visiting hours at St. Brendan's Church, 589 Gallivan Blvd.,
Dorchester, MA on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 4-8 pm.
Funeral Mass in St. Brendan's Church on Saturday morning,
January 27, 2024, at 10:00 am.
Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
